YSL – A Collection With A Fetish Egde

The Fall/Winter 2012-2013 season will be Stefano Pilati’s last as creative director for Yves Saint Laurent and his Prêt-à-porter collection seems to reflect the idea of a farewell.

Pilati’s mourning comes however in the form of a dominatrix fantasy, with rough looks presented on the bodies of models with an almost vampirical allure, with their intense palor and bloody-red lips.

Accentuated waists, oversized shoulders, reminiscent of 80s fashion, of which Pilati has often declared himself a big fan of, leather outfits, backless chainmail dresses and a couple of metal and even rubber pieces, all with a powerful fetish edge, invaded the runway, in a frenzy of the designer’s fantasies.

The YSL Smoking, the symbol of the House, was present within the collection in the form of jackets and blazers with lapels in silver lamé.

In a play upon symbols with a soft touch of irony, Pilati chose the calla lily as the floral accent for his collection, which is the Roman symbol of lust, as well as being the flower that is usually laid on the graves of those who have suffered an early demise.

Full of erotic energy, the YSL collection for next season still manages to keep intact the House’s French-chic allure. It is most certainly addressed to a powerful woman, who isn’t afraid to showcase her sexuality and stand away form the crowd.
