Vintage ’60s Feel For Marni

The Marni Fall/Winter 2012-2013 presentation, showcased in Milan, has gone back to the „Oldies but Goldies” archives, bringing a refined new input to the signature design that we’ve been accustomed with.

The extravagant prints that we’ve known Consuelo Castiglioni to favour, were absent. Overlooking a series of floral prints, the garments have a 1960’s edge to them.

White stockings, oversized sunglasses, drop-waist silhouettes, appliqués of metallic discs, big brooches used to define necklines and two coats – one red leather, one in shiny butter-yellow patent leather, added to the vintage feel of the collection.

Besides the architectural, rigid lines, there were a few oriental influences to the garments, including red accents, brocade or the kabuki-soled sandals that the models wore.

Even if this season, the Marni collection is a little bit off its characteristic style, Castiglioni choosing to concentrate, with a play upon volumes, on the importance of form, rather than the prints’ power of expression, a breath of freshness is always welcome.
