Video: “The Director” – The Story Behind The Gucci Label, The Vision Behind Its Future

What with films such as ”Lagerfeld Confidential” (2007) – a cinematic portrait of fashion icon Karl Lagerfeld, ”Valentino: The Last Emperor” (2008) – an exclusive look at the life and inspiration of designer Valentino Garavani, or ”The September Issue” (2009) – a sneak peek into the backstage of the making of the most important Vogue issue of the year, the public has developed a taste for documentary films that offer unique insight into the fascinating world of fashion.

Oscar-nominated actor and producer James Franco adds to this year’s must see list a captivating new documentary, which offers a unique vision of the behind-the-scenes atmosphere of one of the most prestigious fashion houses in the world – Gucci. The documentary, entitled ”The Director”, was launched during the Tribeca Film Festival, and offers a fascinating insight of everything that the brand encapsulates, from the atmosphere of its Italian ateliers, the feverish preparations for catwalk shows, which include model casting and imagining the design, to the life and inspiration of the label’s current creative director, Frida Giannini.

Directed by Christina Voros and produced by James Franco, ”The Director” follows the Italian label throughout three seasons. The final products that shine temptingly in Gucci stores around the world, are the result of a complex creative process, which most people buying them forget even exists. The documentary aims to illustrate this captivating process, through which an idea slowly but steadily becomes reality.
