Video: Never Get Lost Again With The Awesome GPS Shoes

When I was little, I had this terrible fear of getting lost, thinking that if I did, nobody, not even my parents, would find me ever again. Over the years, my fear of getting lost has disappeared, but it’s transformed into something equally annoying: frustration. Every time I’m in a hurry and have to find a street that I’ve never been to and every time I need to get somewhere and try to find an alternative route, I get lost. Of course, it doesn’t help that I’m a woman, a fact that has been scientifically proven to be equivalent to bad orientation skills.

And, what’s worse, if you’ve ever happened to get lost with a man, you must now that there’s no way he would ever admit that he has no clue where he is and he’d cut off one of his own legs before he’d ask somebody for directions. Every time this happens, I find myself thinking of ”The Wizard of Oz” and how lucky Dorothy was to just have to tap her ruby slippers together to magically end up home.

Apparently, I’m not the only one who’s dreamt of this – British designer Dominic Wilcox has created a pair of shoes with a GPS device embedded in the heel, inspired by the famous motion picture. Symbolically named “No Place Like Home”, the shoes work with a satellite to help you find your way home, or wherever else you may want to go.

The shoes created by Wilcox are currently only available for men, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this kind of marriage between fashion and technology will soon be embedded into women’s footwear as well. Until then, the nifty yet chic GPS shoes make a wonderful gift for the stylish man who is sometimes a bit of an airhead and happens to lose his way.
