Versace Flirts With Glam-Goth Fashion

For Versace‘s Fall/Winter 2012-2013 season, Donatella has admitted to finally overcome her demons, taking on his brother’s legacy, more then five years after his death.

Thus came a tribute-collection to Gianni Versace’s last Haute Couture show, presented in July 1997 in Paris, days before his assassination.

Models with a severe styling (dark makeup and ultra-short bangs), accessorized with fishnet stockings, wore flirty dresses, contrasting with their sombre appearance.

Crucifixes, an abundance of black, leather, studs, armour-like corsets – overall, a hardcore look, almost robotic, with a splash of colour – hazmat orange and chrome yellow.

Besides the studded black leather dresses and trenchcoats, the feeling of toughness was sustained by the heavy stitching on some garments and the classic Versace chainmail.

Donatella did not let go of the feminine looks, imagining them in the form of long evening gowns, with sinuous silhouettes, in an array of shiny, luscious fabrics, or even entirely covered in shiny pailletes, glimmering with every step. However, the Haute Couture collection shown in Paris outshines Milan’s Prêtà-Porter.

Oximoronically dubbed by critics as „retro-futuristic”, Donatella Versace’s collection for next season tends to fall on the same step with her late brother’s sensational designs.
