Three nuts a day keep the strict diets away

Although those who want to lose weight are often reluctant in eating nuts, almonds or pistachios, recent studies show their consumption can actually help you stay in shape.

The study, led by the researchers at the University of Louisiana, was conducted using the data of 13,292 women and men who participated at multiple researches between 1999-2004, by National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (NHANES).

Results show that those who eat a variety of almonds, cashews, walnuts, pistachios or hazelnuts not only have a lower body weight than those whose menu does not include these foods, but also have a thinner waist. They are also less likely to develop heart disease, diabetes and metabolic disorders.

Dr O’Neil, who led the study, says daily consumption of three nuts should be part of any healthy diet and should be encouraged by professionals in nutrition.
