The holidays are coming, and if we needed a reason to stop feeling (semi)guilty for all the shopping already pilling up, as well as a dash of strength and a sprinkle of inspiration to keep up the preparatives for the dressing up from under the tree, we can, just like every year, rely on Galeries Lafayette!
The magical cupola on Boulevard Haussmann is alight with the festive shimmer of fairytale nights lit by starry skies and snow, the stores have shed their old collections and shine with irresistible new temptations, while the windows, this year dedicated to children, are the perfect pretext for completely guilt free shopping.
Plus, if there’s still someone able to argue against a trip to under the charmed Parisian Christmas tree alive with music and toys every hour – I can hear it calling – I give you my punch line and strategy: ’’Well, no problem, I can also go to the recently opened Galeries Lafayette Beijing! It has just 500 stores, a replica of the Eiffel Tower and, with a little bit of feng shui shopping, I could get lucky and next year maybe travel to the rest of the 63 Lafayette destinations around the world!’’
We can dream, can’t we? After all, it’s that time of the year, the time for making wishes!
The story-like windows of the 2013 winter are dedicated to the French version of The Beauty and the Beast, starring Léa Seydoux and Vincent Cassel, due to be launched this February, while the fantastic Christmas tree under the Lafayette dome, courtesy of Swatch, is the first such animated installation in the history of the great department stores.
