The Sound Of Change Live Brings Together People Chiming For A Change In The World

More than 50,000 people have shown their support for a charitable cause this past week-end – the fantastic SOUND OF CHANGE LIVE concert has gathered some of the most talented artists, some of the most well-known activists in the world, as well as a cascade of fans, in order to support CHIME FOR CHANGE, the charitable project founded by Gucci, raising $4.3 million through ticket sales alone.

The CHIME FOR CHANGE initiative includes campaigns promoting the educational, health and justice systems around the entire world, from one corner to another, supporting the empowerment of women everywhere. Aside from donations coming from all over the globe, via the chimeforchange.org, fb.com/chimeforchange platforms and via text message, THE SOUND OF CHANGE LIVE has proven to be a grand source of fund raising, in order to support women all around the planet.

THE SOUND OF CHANGE LIVE has been orchestrated in such a manner so that each person buying a ticket could choose a noble cause to chime for, the price of the ticket (minus VAT and service fees), being donated to the chosen project, thanks to the support and collaboration of Catapult, the first crowd-funding platform exclusively dedicated to empowering women. Thus, the $4.3 million raised by CHIME FOR CHANGE through THE SOUND OF CHANGE LIVE, will make their way to no less than 70 countries around the world, supporting about 200 charitable projects.

In order to promote awareness of women’s situations on a global level, as well as the ways in which they can be helped, THE SOUND OF CHANGE LIVE has gathered the elite of today’s artists on its stage. The exceptional event was opened by surprise-artist Jessie J, who entertained the crowd with her mega-hit, ”Price Tag”. Amongst the other fabulous surprises of the evening were a couple of duets, including Mary J. Blidge and Jennifer Lopez, who performed ”Come Together”, Simon Le Bon and Timbaland, who sang a remix of Duran Duran’s hit ”Reflex”, and Jay Z, joining his wife, Beyoncé, on stage, for a special duet.

Beyoncé Carter-Knowles, co-founder of the CHIME FOR CHANGE initiative, was introduced on stage by fellow co-founders Frida Giannini and Salma Hayek Pinault. The artist ended the 4-hour show with a stunning 45-minute performance, which included a series of hits, such as special re-works of “Who Run The World”, “Halo”, “If I Were A Boy”, “Single Ladies” or Destiny’s Child’s “Survivor”.

Aside from the amazing musical event, THE SOUND OF CHANGE LIVE also brought a programme of short film to the public’s attention, highlighting the inspirational personal stories of women around the world, who have managed to overcome their conditions. Humaira: The Dream Catcher, directed by Emmy and Oscar-winner film-maker Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy, was introduced by Madonna. The film’s heroine, Humaira herself, took the stage in an emotional moment, while Madonna announced the support offered by CHIME FOR CHANGE, in order for the school started by Humaira in Pakistan, to be finished.

Sepideh: Letters To Einstein, by Berit Madsen, featuring the story of Sepideh, a young Iranian astronomer dreaming of becoming an astronaut, Reaching For The Sun, by Jehane Noujaim, telling the story of 30 grandmothers from all around the world, training to become solar engineers, and #Shouting Back, by Dan Reed, highlighting the story of Laura Bates, the British journalist and activist that is using social media to bring awareness to the case of violence against women, are just some of the inspirational short films that were presented during THE SOUND OF CHANGE LIVE event.
