The Decadent Roaring Twenties, Recreated By Prada and Tiffany & Co. For The Great Gatsby

Ever since last December, when I first saw the teaser trailer at the movie theatre (which somehow managed to fascinate me more than the movie that I was there to watch), I’ve been dying to see the manner in which Baz Luhrmann envisioned the decadent world of the Roaring Twenties, as imagined by Scott F. Fitzgerald in one of the most acclaimed novels of all time – The Great Gatsby.

The excess, the decadence, the exuberance, the glamour of the Jazz Age – all this couldn’t have been recreated in any other way than by enlisting the help of some special collaborators, that could paint a true picture of a time when diamonds, flapper dresses, crystals, sequins and pearls were the order of the day. Thus, two of the most important collaborations, that make The Great Gatsby a truly must-see movie, come from two brands famous for the aura of refinement that they have been successfully projecting for decades now, onto anybody that wears their creations – Prada and Tiffany & Co.

Fun facts:

>> Miuccia Prada worked with costume designer Catherine Martin, Baz Luhrmann’s wife, to create about 40 outfits for the two ball scenes.

>> In order to perfectly recreate the atmosphere of the Roaring Twenties, Miuccia browsed through old Miu Miu and Prada archives and selected pieces that were in tone with the theme, which she then adapted and re-styled for the movie.

>> The stunning Prada and Miu Miu outfits featured in the movie, have also been put on display at the Prada store in Soho New York, up until May 12th, as part of the Catherine Martin and Miuccia Prada Dress Gatsby exhibition. Currently, they are on display at the Prada store i Tokyo, up until July 14th.

>> The exhibition marks the first time that Prada and Miu Miu outfits are being displayed under one roof.

>> Even before the film premiered, the glamour of the Twenties had such impact on the public, that Tiffany & Co. decided to launch a special jewelry collection inspired b The Great Gatsby. Discover it here.

>> Each and every piece of jewelry featured in the movie is by Tiffany & Co. The inspiration came from the company’s own archives.

>> Tiffany & Co. provided a personal bodyguard to ensure that each jewelry piece was well-guarded, once it was out of the safe.
