Terry Richardson Presents: Les Objets Du Désir Valentino

Imagination exercise #1: What do you think of when you hear the word Valentino? I, for one, instantly portray suave, etherical dresses in fluid silk, precious brocade skirts or ultra-feminine lace dresses, in the purest shade of fiery red, a signature element of the Italian fashion house, all modeled by infinitely sensual silhouettes, such as Bette Franke, Zuzanna Bijoch or Tilda Lindstam.

Imagination exercise #2: What do you think of when you hear the words Terry Richardson? For me, it’s the photographer’s intensely tattooed, always-smiling figure, his always-present oversize glasses which he lends to each star at the end of a photo shoot, and, of course, his deliciously scandalous sexualised pictorials.

The 3rd imagination exercise belongs to the creative director duo of the house of Valentino, namely Maria Grazia Chiuri & Pierpaolo Piccioli, who have imagined a truly surprising manner of portraying the sensuality and elegance of the label’s accessories for the Fall 2013 campaign, by creating a powerful sense of contrast.

The result? A campaign in which the exquisite Valentino Rockstud Rouge and Rockstud Noir bags and shoes, every woman’s objets du désir, are playfully showcased in Richardson’s super-tattooed arms, while he plays both photographer and model for the campaign.

Is there any better way of highlighting the delicateness and sensuality of the Valentino shoes and bags, than by showcasing them tightly clutched in Richardson’s masculine hands, against his signature raw backdrop? I don’t think so!
