Roberto Cavalli FW15: Welcome to Shanghai!

Who would have thought Italy and China had so much in common? Someone with the creative impetus and crafting ability to render this unexpected link into overwhelming fashion, of course!

With his previous show this Milan Fashion Week – Just Cavalli – he had stated his artistic creed as always having creativity and out of the box thinking at its core. And with this ’’perfume of China’’ collection, Cavalli managed the extraordinary: to provide us with an even better example!

By mixing Chinese cultural and aesthetic references with what he calls ’’the highest Italian craftsmanship’’, elaborate pieces emerged. The pagoda buttons on the dresses, the svelte silhouettes of the gowns, high waisted trousers and jacket-overcoats, the Ming dynasty vase burnt yellow flowers adorning fabrics and boots’ heels alike, the Shanghai night dresses.

Additionally enriching this look were more modern references as well. From the movie In the mood for love, the designer took away a windowpane check print as well as the push for daring with bold cross references – a Chinese cultural cross-section through millennia and artistic expressions. The ones to stay with us for undoubtedly much time to come? The windswept degradé chiffon plissé beauties from the grand Roberto Cavalli grand finale!
