As far as I’m concerned, if there’s another passion besides fashion lagging at a reasonable distance behind to justify me calling it second, then it is old movies. It is, still, a passion so far explored only in front of the television, at home, next to other movie-loving friends.
It’s, of course, the option available to all of us. Since we’re not Warner Bros., global leader in the entertainment industry and treasurer of 6 500 feature films, among the most prestigious and valuable ever made. And we don’t have among our cinema-goer friends the renowned house of Gucci, with ever new cultural patronages, or The Film Foundation, reuniting Martin Scorsese, Woody Allen, Francis Ford Coppola, Clint Eastwood, George Lucas, Robert Redford and Steven Spielberg for the preservation and restoration of motion picture history.
But it is specifically thanks to them that, I hope soon in cinemas near me and near you, last week in Los Angeles saw the premiere of the digitally restored version of the undisputable classic Rebel Without a Cause (1955), with the indisputably genius James Dean in the leading role. A five star movie night!
