Peplums: Summer’s Hottest Trend

Peplums are among this season’s hottest trends. Worn correctly, they have the power to flatter your silhouette in a manner few other details of various clothes can. Be careful, though, as worn inadequately, they can have the exact opposite effect.

Keep in mind that there are a few simple DOs and DON’Ts that can help you choose the right pieces for your silhouette:

Pair peplum tops or jackets with straight-cut or skinny trousers or with pencil skirts, to enhance the curves of your silhouette and to optically elongate your legs.

Choose colours carefully: wear a darker colour peplum top to create the illusion of narrow shoulders or pair a lighter colour peplum top with a bottom part in a darker tone to draw attention to the bust area, making your waist look slimmer.

Dare to pair peplums with other key-pieces from your wardrobe. Prints, lace, chiffon, silk – it’s summertime, so go on and experiment to find the most feminine & chic ways to wear the peplum trend.

Avoid wearing Mary Janes or any other shoes or sandals that have straps going around the ankles. Since the peplum line is already cutting your silhouette horizontally in half, there’s no need for any other distractions of the sort.

Peplums can be very flattering on curvier silhouettes, provided that you avoid choosing a fabric that clings to the body. You have a myriad of other stylish alternatives, such as chiffon, knits or silk.

Make sure that when you go shopping, you try on the clothes you intend to buy, before actually purchasing them, so that you can get an idea on how they fit and if they work with your body type.
