Naomi Campbell and Roberto Cavalli, in charge of a new glittering charitable gala at the Festival de Cannes

Festival de Cannes

The pre-festival hype is at its highest around the Festival de Cannes. There are just over two weeks left before the kick-off of the beautiful madness surrounding the illustrious film festival. And Cannes, through its prestige and international fame is – almost – equally a fashion, people and charitable event.

The Festival is overtaken with global celebrities from the – at least – 7 arts exquisitely taking part in a great variety of associated events. And the most select among them, with an invitation almost so valuable as half a Palme d’Or, is this year dedicated to the 20th anniversary of amfAR – the Cinema Against Aids gala.

Naomi Campbell and Carine Roitfeld – former editor at Vogue – are the organisers, Roberto Cavalli is in charge with the design and decor, while Givenchy, Prada, Marchesa, Versace, Alexander Wang, Louis Vuitton, Tom Ford, Dior, Burberry and Alexander McQueen have already created glamorous gowns especially for the soirée.

The gala is inspired by Elizabeth Taylor, active supporter of the cause and amfAR, and Kenneth Cole, amfAR co-chair, speaks about the virtually unparalleled artistic energy at Cannes, where you have the very best of culture converging in one place. It is bound to be another success and a real feast for the photographers assigned at the Festival.

And to begin warming up to the champagne laden atmosphere so typical of Cannes during the Festival, here are a few images from last year’s Palais des Festivals, photographs entirely worthy of Paris Fashion Week.
