Masculine Silhouettes Reinvented In Feminine Versions: The Maison Martin Margiela Show At PFW

For the Fall/Winter 2013 season, the Maison Martin Margiela show focused on reinventing menswear-specific silhouettes into feminine versions, using the construction and deconstruction techniques, that are a trademark of the brand.

Striped shirts were reconstructed as jackets or dresses with asymmetrical silhouettes, men’s jackets were sculpted to highlight the waist, but were given sleeves with exaggerated proportions, while masculine blazers became oversize vests or jackets. For nighttime, the show’s most powerful looks translated into floor-length dresses in a mix of overlapped fabrics and adorned with graphic motifs.
