Marc Jacobs, more coveted than ever

Marc Jacobs

It is plain obvious that things are happening at Marc Jacobs, Marc by Marc Jacobs and around Marc Jacobs!

Jacobs, with creative inputs at Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton, brought British designer Luella Bartley as Design Director for the Marc by Marc Jacobs collections and has offered long-time brand top person Katie Hillier the job of Creative Director. Nothing better, more officially confirmed and even expected, since Marc Jacobs International president Robert Duffy said to WWD that for Marc ’’competition has become too great’’ and that the label needs more ’’interesting’’ designs.

But since the contract between Jacobs and Louis Vuitton is ending this year and all that lately got leaked to the press have been speculations on whether or not he is going to continue in charge and concerning the likelihood of having Nicolas Ghesquière follow in his footsteps, the web grows wider.

More so, based on the certainty of the moves at Marc by Marc Jacobs and rumours on Jacobs and Louis Vuitton, the fact that Coach’s Reed Krakoff is to leave the American conglomerate by mid 2014 could only lead to assumptions that Jacobs might well be among the top presumed candidates to fill Krakoff’s place. And this together with the same Nicolas Ghesquière, with Phillip Lim, Derek Lam, Clare Waight Keller and Emma Hill.

Transatlantic design and fashion industry seem to be in equally troubled waters, and only the business and old-fashioned creativity muses are likely to break the spell and decide who will ultimately enjoy Marc Jacobs from now on. So let’s wait and see!

Jacobs started Marc by Marc Jacobs 13 years ago, while his collaboration with Louis Vuitton has a 16 year history.
