Learn next season’s top make up with the pros: Pat McGrath & Gucci Cosmetics

Pat McGrath is not only a world-renowned living and creating legend. But also the eye and apt hand behind countless runway looks for every major designer and the specialist consultant that put into professional shape the beauty lines of a few among them.

Vogue named her the World’s Most Influential Make-up Artist. Queen Elizabeth decorated her with the title of Member of the Order of the British Empire, for service to the beauty industry.

With Gucci, as Cosmetics Artistic Director, Pat has helped Frida Giannini insure the hands on excellence of the House’s newly introduced make up line: ‘’Frida’s vision was clear, she looked for a collection designed to belong in a makeup artist’s kit but also to be a woman’s trusted beauty product. We spent a long time perfecting a precise balance of technology and finishes, which are unique and unmistakably Gucci.’’

I was afraid of being late, I was afraid I was going to miss the meeting with the makeup guru, Pat McGrath. Still, my BFF, Mercedes-Benz GLA from Tiriac Auto, saved me once again, taking me on time to the backstage of the Gucci show, right before the event was about to start.

As a true artist, McGrath made me a live demonstration of how the product should be applied to get the best result. A result very much appreciated by the hottest supermodels of the moment, Joan Smalls and Anja Rubik. The fashion darlings duo told me they felt great and they definitely looked the same.

It was only natural for Pat’s tour de force before the Gucci spring-summer 2015 catwalk to be all fireworks of passion considering the insider’s knowledge. For the runway styling, Pat shared with me her genius catwalk tips backstage, where she used Lustrous Glow Foundation, Perfecting Concealer and Luxe finishing powder, all lit up with Magnetic Color Shadow Mono in Iconic Gold, Magnetic Color Shadow Quad Tuscan Storm, Opulent Mascara in Brown and Bold High Gloss Lacquer in Wild Amarena.

And it was spectacular: her skill, her tips, and the delicate, soft and bright final result. You can imagine, since even Charlotte Casiraghi, the face of the Gucci makeup line, says she learnt magic tricks from McGrath: ‘’One good trick she taught me is to put light-beige pencil on the inside of your eyes. It helps the colour of your eyes to come out.’’!

I also came back with more knowledge about makeup. Pat was kind enough to advised me to use two colors on my eyebrows. One darker to the first half and a lighter color for the rest of the eyebrow line. “If you use the same color all over, your face will look more fierce. A lighter tone on the descendant part of the eyebrow, will give you a more natural and warmer appearance.” I never thought that such a small trick can make such a big change.

Thank you, Pat!
