Karla Otto – The Fashion Industry’s Media Guru

From model to fashion industry media guru, Karla Otto’s story resembles that of a true Superwoman.

Karla Otto was introduced to the fashion world through modelling. Towards the end of the 70s, after strutting down the runways of Milan, Tokyo and Paris, Karla started working in the PR department of Elio Fiorucci’s Italian fashion label. A short while later, her obvious talent and skill in the field of public relations made her muster up the courage to start her own business. Thus, in 1882, Karla Otto founded her own PR and consulting company, based in Milan.

Soon, the clients started coming. First, there was independent film producer Bobo Kaminski, shortly followed by Jean Paul Gaultier, Miuccia Prada, Jil Sander and Marni, whom Karla helped promote their newly launched labels onto the international fashion market.

In 1991, Karla extended her business with a new office in Paris and another one in London. Currently, her agency also has offices in Los Angeles, New York and Hong Kong, covering a wide range of services, which include contacts and PR strategies, showroom services, media buying, image consulting, publicity campaigns, event planning and show production, not only for clients from the fashion world, but also for the beauty and luxury goods industries.

Currently, Karla Otto’s high-end client list includes important names such as Antonio Berardi, Bally, Casadei, Christian Dior Couture, Dior Homme by Hedi Slimane, Emilio Pucci, Fuzzi, Gibo, Hussein Chalayan, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Jil Sander, Lagerfeld Homme, Marni, Nike, Sigerson Morrison and Viktor & Rolf in Milan, Alberta Ferretti, Antonio Berardi, Bally, Emilio Pucci, Gibo, Hussein Chalayan, Jil Sander, Lagerfeld Homme, Marni, Nike, Pomellato and Viktor & Rolf in Paris, as well as Casadei, Emilio Pucci, Gibo, Hussein Chalayan, Luisa Beccaria, Marni, Nike and Viktor & Rolf in London.

With such a tight schedule, it’s a wonder that Karla Otto’s life includes something other besides work. Aside from organising events and various shows and providing consulting services for her clients from the fashion, beauty and luxury markets, Karla still finds the time to enjoy the small pleasures of life, attending the most lavish and luxurious parties, along with her famous clients and friends.
