How To Protect Your Hair At The Pool

I’ve noticed since a few years ago that whenever I go to the beach, my hair gets the perfect shape and texture – the marine breeze gives it enviable volume and the salty sea water defines my natural curls, making them even more lust-worthy than that of the girls in shampoo commercials. When I go to the pool, however, that’s a totally different story. The high level of chlorine in the water can have devastating effects on the hair, so I’ve put together a list of simple tricks, so that you know how t protect your hair this summer:

>> Apply a special spray or hair oil which will create a barrier between your hair and the chlorine in the pool. Make sure it’s waterproof and also make sure that you apply it a few minutes before going in the water, so that it has time to absorb in your hair.

>> Hair is porous, thus, if you shower before going into the pool, it will end up absorbing far less chlorine-contaminated water in the end.

>> Don’t forget to rinse your hair with fresh water immediately after you get out of the pool, even if you don’t have time to wash it thoroughly. The, as soon as possible, wash your hair with a shampoo formulated to restore shine.

>> If your hair is dyed, use a clearing shampoo specially formulated to eliminate chemicals from the hair, as well as protecting the colour.

>> Using a moisturising conditioner once a week is mandatory during the summer if you make frequent visits to the pool.
