How To Dress For A First Date

Surely you must have found yourself at least once in the stressful situation of having to pick an outfit for a first date, while having no idea where the date is going to take place.

Even a classic date place like the restaurant can cause problems. Say you choose to wear your sexiest short evening dress, la pièce de résistance of your wardrobe. If he takes you somewhere casual, like a diner, you’ll be terribly overdressed and will be feeling uncomfortable all evening. On the other hand, there’s a possibility that he notices what you’re wearing and, being the gentleman that he is, takes you somewhere more in tune with your outfit, all the while thinking that you’re too high maintenance for his taste. You definitely want to steer clear of each of these scenarios.

Fortunately, there are some simple ways to make sure that you’re perfectly dressed for very eventuality. Your best bet is to choose a simple dress that can be dressed either up or down. Adorn in with beautiful, feminine accessories, but nothing too fancy.

This way, if when he comes to pick you up, he drops a hint that you’ll be going dancing in a club, you can top off your outfit with a fabulous pair of stilettos and throw on a sequined blazer, a fabulous jacket or a short fur coat and you’re party-ready!

If he says you’re going to the movies, you can leave the outfit as is, throw on your day coat and accessorize with an interesting scarf or shoes.

There’s also a possibility that he’s picking you up right after work and you don’t have time to go home and change. Your best bet in this situation would be sticking with a feminine suit in pastel colours (black and grey scream corporate employee).

Make sure you wear an interesting blouse underneath your high-buttoned jacket – a sheath blouse or a sequined top are the best choices and don’t forget to keep a few pieces of jewelry in your purse.

This way, if he’s planned a casual tea for two, you’re fine as is, but if the date should progress into a party, a night out clubbing or a meal at a posh restaurant, you can slip off your jacket and slip on a pair of earrings, a sparkly cocktail ring or a fabulous necklace.

All you need to wear besides this is a smile and he’s yours!
