It is not a well-known fact that before creating the famous New Look silhouette in 1947 (a jacket with a tight waist and peplum detail, paired with an A-line full skirt), Christian Dior started his career in 1942 as a costume designer.

Seventy years later, his passion for dressing movie stars is documented in a book made up of 250 photographs, including film stills, location snapshots and portraits of stars wearing Dior creations.

The “Stars in Dior” hardback offers an overview of Hollywood stars who, over time, have graciously donned outfits signed by the French designer. From stars like Marilyn Monroe, Grace Kelly, Sophia Loren and Marlene Dietrich (who, on the set of Alfred Hitchcock’s “Stage Fright” imposed a “No Dior, no Dietrich!” rule), to present-day celebrities such as Natalie Portman, Charlize Theron or Kirsten Dunst, the album showcases expressive images, presenting each star wearing Dior in her own unique way, be it pairing the designs nonchalantly with jeans, like Marion Cotillard, or in an adorable, gamine style, like Jean Seberg.

Edited by art publisher Rizzoli, the book will be released in France (€45) starting with the month of May and will become available in the US in September ($65). The European release will coincide with the “Stars in Dior: From the scene to the streets” exhibition, held at the Christian Dior Museum in Normandy from May 12th up until September 23rd .
