Fendi – Tribal-Chic for Milan Fashion Week

For the Fendi Fall/Winter 2012 show, Karl Lagerfeld certainly did not shy away from creating a huge controversy, courtesy of PETA, choosing to dress his models in a myriad of leathers, furs and skins.

Crocodile, antelope, goat, mink – all have been sacrificed on fashion’s altar this season, but the result is positively sensational. Even purses and shoes have been adorned with such insertions.

The styling of the models was tribal-inspired, with hair worn in plaits, down or over their foreheads, adding to the primitive feel of a truly hypnotic collection.

Where there wasn’t fur or leather, there were leopard prints (on stockings and silk blouses) and mohair knits (in a series of patchwork dresses), complementing the animalistic tendency of the show.

The softness of the feminine silhouette was brought to attention with a play upon volumes, paired with accentuated waistlines. The colour palette was reminiscent of „the warm glow before the snow” as the designer himself chose to express it.

Once again, Lagerfeld put it all out there in a luxuriant collection, proving that in high fashion, there’s no place for the ordinary.
