Elie Saab’s Fata Morgana

In the last day of Couture Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2012, all critical eyes turned to the dream dresses of Elie Saab.

The name of the collection – “Urban Reverie” – was not in vain. Saabmanaged to capture the skyscrapers reflections from the sun lighted glass into a palette of colors travelling from the metallic grey all the way to the sky blue, powder beige or iridescent brown, as if tinged with Mediterranean bronze.

As suggested by the campaign of the newly released fragrance, starring Anja Rubik, the Saab woman of this season is depicted as an evanescent FataMorgana amid a rigid urban environment.

The drapes – the design element which made him famous – were used to argue against the perfect geometry of the city. Although, generally, the place we live in tends to imprint on us a certain pose in agreement with its architecture, the Lebanese designer broke into the style line and composed in particular for the “city” girls, airy tulle, chiffon and lace dresses, vaguely embroidered with tiny crystals.

A truly memorable collection.
