Dolce & Gabbana Fall/Winter 2013: When Fine Craftsmanship Meets Glamorous Opulence

The splendid Byzantine mosaics adorning the walls of the 12th century Duomo Santa Maria la Nuova in Monreale, Sicily, were reproduced with magistral craftsmanship on the outfits featured in the Dolce & Gabbana Fall/Winter 2013 show. The exquisite artisanal craft of the Dolce & Gabbana ateliers, combined with the maximalist vision abounding in glamour and femininity and inspired by the designer duo’s native Italian homeland, came together once again, to bring to life a hauntingly beautiful collection.

Dresses sensuously wrapped around the feminine silhouette, subtly enhancing its hourglass shape, jackets with double peplums, tops and skirts with intricate beading and dresses with rich embroidery were all sprinkled with a cascade of gold irisations and accessorised with chandelier earrings, royal crowns and velvet ballerina flats or stiletto platforms with Baroque details.

The menswear-inspired silhouettes, in tweed printed with a grey herringbone pattern, broke the line-up of opulent looks, offering a dose of balance before the runway was once again filled with extravagant outfits, in the form of eveningwear in sensual lace, embroided with a myriad sparkling crystals.
