Bikers fighting violence against women. Soon, on a road near you

15 fiercely determined bikers on 15 loud Harley Davidson have made, at the end of last year, a huge visual, phonic and message impact on 9 South African countries. Over 8 200 kilometres spanning Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Swaziland and Lesotho they relentlessly carried their mission: Ride On! Speak Out! UNiTE to End Violence against Women and Girls and talked from man to man about violence against women.

In the South of Africa the numbers are almost just as shocking as each one of the numerous cases: 7 in 10 women are beaten, coerced into sex or otherwise abused by an intimate partner.

UN Women sponsored by Harley Davidson has thus tried to breach in and enter into contact with as many local groups and networks as possible, in order to long term be able to extend their 16 day activism to a full 365 days a year action against violence.

Regionally and globally, violence against women might still have generations to make endure the traumas of aggression and injustice. But each of these generations will have an ever increasing proportion of women and men no longer open to tolerate it.
