Best Highlights of Milan Fashion Week with Janina Nectara – Fashion Avec Passion

Extraordinary, sensational, thrilling! Three words defining Milan Fashion Week through the eyes of Fashion Avec Passion. Here is the full story, as shown on the evening magazine show Observator Special, from Antena 1 TV!

We, mere mortals, only get the opportunity to admire this world’s great designers’ creations on television or in glossy magazines. We do it as otherwise we wouldn’t know about the season’s or the year’s trends. But there are also lucky people that get to see the collections from the middle of it all, talking to world-renown designers, even showcasing their creations. One such person is Janina Nectara, fashion journalist and successful blogger. Recently arrived from Milan Fashion Week, where she interviewed leading figures in the industry.

She now brings us details from the backstage of one of fashion’s paramount events.

As far as fashion goes, the tone is not set in just one city. Still, even if the trends also come from New York, London and Paris, the most glam, most spectacular and most opulent fashion week takes place in Milan. This is the place where on the runways calendar feature the industry’s most revered names, such as Armani, Gucci, Ferré or Prada. Regardless of the catwalk season starting with New York and London, the great majority of industry insiders skip the two and go straight to Milano Fashion Week.

reporter: What have been the most exciting moments at Milan Fashion Week?

Janina Nectara: The first day, the most important show is that of Gucci, and for having so many eyes set on its new fashion ideas, the fashion house has to run two catwalk shows, in a row. I’ve been privileged to be invited backstage, where Pat McGrath explained to me personally what the trends in make up would be this next summer.

Pat McGrath’s advice is extremely valuable. Pat was recognised by Vogue magazine as the world’s most influential make up artist. And was invested by Queen Elizabeth II with the Order of the British Empire for her contribution to the beauty industry. Recently, she played an essential role in the creation of the Gucci Cosmetics line.

JN: Pat McGrath shared her experience and helped Frida Giannini, the Creative Director at Gucci with the conception of this make up line, for which only the research phase took approximately 4 years, Frida Giannini taking an introspective look at Gucci’s archives in order to narrow down on the colours that are truly emblematic of the House.

The spokesperson for Gucci Cosmetics is Charlotte Casiraghi, member of the royal family of Monaco, a perfectly natural choice by the fashion house, since she is the granddaughter of Grace Kelly and the daughter of Caroline de Monaco, two iconic figures for both international history and that of the House.

JN: I had the privilege of being invited to interview Charlotte Casiraghi among, I am proud to say it, just 10-15 journalists from all over the world – including fashion editors from Vanity Fair, L’Officiel – journalists that have interviewed the princess in an informal setting.

This is how we got to know about her first contact with her mother’s make up or which are her favourites from the collection she headlines.

JN: Can you tell me what is your favourite Gucci make up product?

Charlotte Casiraghi: I would say the liquid eyeliner because it’s really easy to use, which is the most important for an eyeliner. And the red lipstick! That Iconic Red is beautiful.

In the honour of Princess Charlotte Casiraghi, Gucci organised an exclusivistic party that brought together top personalities, such as Godfrey Deeny, Franca Sozzani or Hofit Golan.

Roberto Cavalli we found the way we’ve always known him: surrounded by the press, in the midst of celebrities.

JN: Roberto Cavalli is, as a matter of fact, very gracious, very outgoing, he has an open personality, that of someone that wants to be the centre of attention and knows how to do it.

Even if lesser known by the great audience, the Aquilano.Rimondi show is, also, a high point during the Fashion Week.

JN: Aquilano.Rimondi garners, season upon season, the most highly held fashion critics, the most sought-after journalists, virtually every person you could wish for at your show, and those people that matter and can help and catapult you forward, for instance Anna dello Russo is a regular fixture, Anna Wintour never misses it, Godfrey Deeny also has his very important front row seat reserved.

And among all of these names of international appeal present in Milan were also future big designers. Vogue Italia Editor in Chief Franca Sozzani, put together an event for the boosting of young talent. The best among them were shortlisted for scholarships from Gucci, Bottega Veneta, Brioni, Sergio Rossi.
And winners are we as well. Not of a competition, but of a season full of creative ideas.
