Exciting, wonderful news for fashion school soon to be graduates and young designers! LVMH has just launched the LVHM Prize for fashion designers under 40 having a young brand and a history of at least two women’s or menswear collections (accessories are not included) as well as students due to graduate in 2014 and with a portfolio of a minimum of six original outfits.
The prizes are more than motivating, they amount to genuine letters of recommendation and usherings into the international industry, if guarantees for success is too much said. Or maybe not. A grant of 300 000 EUR and 12 month technical and financial support come with the LVHM Prize, while the three winners of the Graduates section will be counting on a money prize of 10 00 EUR and becoming part of the design team of one LVMH brand for a year!
For any young designer, it could get more fantastic than this only by knowing they’ve been personally selected by Karl Lagerfeld, Marc Jacobs, Nicolas Ghesquière, Humberto Leon & Carol Lim, Phoebe Philo, Raf Simons and Riccardo Tisci, and it is, in fact, exactly what is going to happen!
Applications are already open, end on February 2nd 2014, and the winners are to be announced in May of next year. Success and, don’t forget, we already know the competition is going to be fierce! More than 150 candidates have applied in just under a week and, from the rhythm I saw while visiting the site, the pace of new submissions is of about 1 per minute!
