Alexander McQueen F/W 2012

Watch the Alexander McQueen Fall/Winter 2012-2013 show here:

„The future is always pictured as being cold and dark. I wanted a show that would celebrate a beautiful, positive and optimistic future”said designer Sarah Burton about the Fall/Winter 2012-2013 collection for Alexander McQueen.

Truly optimistic and imaginative was the show that followed, in which outfits were imagined in such a way that they would leave the impression of a metamorphosis as the presentation went on.

The first series of outfits – a suite of short jacquard skirts with decorative inserts inside the fabric, were the „pods”. The looks that followed migrated towards dresses that seemed to be covered in cherry blossoms, then towards leather numbers with inovative layerings of laser-cut ponyskin, finishing in an explosion of fur.

The show’s finale was an „explosion” of fabric in the most extravagant manner – a luxuriant mix of ostritch feathers, goat and lamb fur.

„I wanted the clothes to seem to float on the runway”said Burton. In an interesting shift from pure white to lively tones of pink, red and black and with the exaggeration of proportions, such as the explosion of organza of a series of seemingly infinite layers of chiffon, the outfits described a truly fantastic story.

So what if next season’s McQueen pieces will scare passers-by when worn out on the  street? A bit of fantasy, especially in the case of a collection designed for the cold season, goes a long way. And Sarah Burton has managed to fascinate us with a collection full of imagination.
