A magnetic fragrance, from Jo Malone

Although everyone is used with launching fruity and floral scents in the summer, Jo Malone has released an exotic fragrance in a summer limited edition, with an exquisite ingredient: oud.

Agarwood, or oud, is a tree in Asia that is infected with a type of mould. In response to the attack, the tree produces a dark aromatic resin, with a particular smell of smoke, wood and santal. Due to its rarity, high demand, and the difficulty of harvesting it, oud oil is perhaps the most expensive oil in the world. Its value is estimated as 1.5 times of the value of gold, and it is sometimes referred to as ‘liquid gold’.

Jo Malone’s new fragrance, Velvet Rose & Oud features clove and praline, together with sensual Damask rose,  joins the five existing Cologne Intense fragrances.

The scent is perfect for those who like heavy, intense, magnetic fragrances, no matter the season. It is priced at £95, and is available at jomalone.co.uk.
